1. WHAT IS SEANATION CUP?
This is a regular regatta for experienced skippers and relatively experienced sailors. The competitions take place in the legendary British Solent Strait - these are precisely the waters in which sailing competitions were held for the first time in the world. The entire coastal area - Southampton, Portsmouth, Gosport, Hamble - is a real sailing Mecca.
  2. I HAVE EXPERIENCE IN YACHTING, BUT I PREFER, SO TO SAY, “SEALING.” THAT IS, I KNOW TO RELY ON THE DECK AND ENJOY THE VIEWS, THE AIR, AND THE WORK OF THE REST OF THE TEAM MEMBERS. BUT THIS IS A REGATTA... SO PERHAPS I SHOULD NOT GO?
Seanation CUP is a sporting event, not a cruise. It requires dedication and constant work by the crew. For relaxation, it is better to choose another option, for example, the AFR - our large annual regatta in Greece.
  3. IF I DON’T UNDERSTAND WHETHER I AM AN EXPERIENCED SAILOR OR NOT, HOW DO I DETERMINE IT?
Every team at Seanation CUP must have the following roles: helmsman, tactician/navigator, forecastle, trimmer/pianist, and clews. Mentally try on all these roles; if one seems clear and feasible, then you have a reason to go to Seanation CUP. Keep in mind that captains at real regattas usually do not tell the sailors working with the sails how to adjust the jib or mainsail - the sailors must be able to do this independently and on time. No, you don't have to be a perfect professional. Yes, you must understand what kind of rope you have in your hands and why it is needed.
  4. YOU DESCRIBE THE REGATTA AS “DYNAMIC.” BE HONEST - IS IT REALLY SAFE?
It's as safe as any other sailing trip. Safety depends on your adequacy and that of other team members. Life jackets, harnesses, control of yourself and others, attentiveness, and clarity - all these help not only in regattas but also in life. No, Seanation CUP is no more dangerous than the Mediterranean regattas. Yes, being on a yacht at sea is a little more dangerous than being at home watching TV. :)
  5. ALL CLEAR. WHAT ABOUT BOATS WITH LIVING QUARTERS? IS IT POSSIBLE TO LIVE ON THEM?
Quite! All yachts are three-cabin (+1 berth in the salon) with a galley, latrine, shower, hot water, and a Webasto diesel heater in each cabin. The British do not provide bed linen, so we recommend bringing sleeping bags and camping pillows.
  6. IS IT DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN A VISA?
Seanation CUP is held annually, and dozens of yachtsmen consistently receive British visas to participate in it. Of course, we will prepare an invitation for each participant in the regatta and advise on the submission scheme. A British visa is much simpler and more convenient than any Schengen visa, believe us.
  7. WHAT DOES A REGATTA CONSIST OF? WHERE DO WE SLEEP, DIFFERENT LOCATIONS EVERY DAY?
We spend the night in our home marina every day, except for one, the very last night. So it’s not at all necessary to live on a yacht; you can rent a hotel room or apartment. On the first day, we meet, accept the yachts, buy provisions on board, and meet in the pub in the evening to celebrate the start of the regatta. The second day is training; all teams get acquainted with the yacht and the waters, train and learn how to work with a gennaker, rehearse starts, go around marks, and so on. Starting from the third day, we race 2-3 races a day. It has already become a tradition to celebrate the finish of the regatta and present prizes to the winners on the Isle of Wight in the city of Cowes - in the real cradle of sailing. This is where we will spend the night at the very end of the competition.
  8. WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER, WHAT EQUIPMENT IS NEEDED?
+15-20 degrees. It rains, but not often. The optimal choice of equipment would be offshore overalls with Gore-Tex sneakers. Rain is not a reason to cancel races, so your crew should be prepared to operate the sails even in heavy rain. In total: a set of thermal underwear, a set of fleece clothing, a membrane top + bottom, waterproof sneakers/boots/short boots. We strongly recommend against high yacht boots - for a coastal regatta, these would be a very inconvenient option.
  9. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?
Each team has its own cost since pricing is the captain's prerogative. The figure depends on how many sailors the cost of the boat is divided into, whether the ship's cash is included in this amount, and so on. Usually, sailors chip in 1200-1500 euros for everything. But you will find out the exact cost of participation by discussing it with a specific captain. In some cases, if you are an experienced and classy sailor, the captain may offer you special conditions.
  10. WHO WILL BE MY CAPTAIN?
Write to us about yourself, what you can do, and what experience you have, and we will connect you with the captains with vacant positions on their teams.
  11. IT SEEMES EVERYTHING IS CHEAP IN ENGLAND! HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD I ALLOW FOR SHORE EXPENSES?
Groceries and dining out in the UK cost about the same as the average in Europe. Typically, participants spend no more than 300-500 pounds for a week-long regatta. If you only eat on a yacht, this amount can be reduced to 100-200.
  12. CAN I BRING A CHILD WITH ME?
There are no restrictions to this, but the issue is worth discussing with your captain.
